Types of Braces for Your Health

  • Child with metal bracesWhat are Braces? Braces, in whatever form they come in, are essentially “handles” which are fixed to teeth to allow the orthodontist to grip the teeth while moving them. Braces are usually connected to each other by wires and sometimes elastic bands. The wires used are in the shape that ideally the orthodontist wants your teeth to be. The wires are threaded through the brackets and held to them. As the wires try to return to their original shapes, they move teeth. How do Braces work? Braces work by gently pressing on your teeth over time and moving them into their desired positions. How long this takes depends upon how far the teeth need to be moved, the age of the patient, the health of the teeth and gums during treatment and individual biology.

    Our Braces Options:

  • Metal Braces by Aurora Orthodontics

  • Metal Braces

Metal braces are the most commonly used type. They are made of a high grade stainless steel and are more comfortable and attractive then ever before. At Aurora Orthodontics we use state of the art materials and the most advanced technology. Our preferred metal braces are smaller than the usual metal braces allowing for a more esthetic solution. Our braces are state of the art and utilize modern technology to provide a continuous force on the teeth to move them to the ideal position in an efficient manner. In addition, we use specialized wires that provide a continuous pressure to the teeth for a long duration enabling us to increase our appointment intervals in order to reduce the patient’s interruptions from school and work and increase comfort.

  • Ceramic Braces

Ceramic braces are made of translucent (clear) materials and offer a less visible alternative. These braces tend to be more popular with adult patients as they blend in more with the natural color of the tooth and are arguably more visually appealing.
